Marathon Data Systems Adopts Element's Hosted Payment Solution Going Out-Of-Scope for PA-DSS Compliance Requirements

) December 18, 2008 - Element Payment Services™, Inc. (Element) announced today that Marathon Data Systems has adopted Hosted Payments, the first payment processing solution to take software providers out-of-scope for PA-DSS (PABP) compliance requirements.

Marathon Data Systems, the developer of pest control software solutions for pest control companies, integrated Element's Hosted Payments solution with their PestPac software to offer its customers the most secure payment processing available. "With Hosted Payments, Element's PCI DSS Express Processing Platform handles all of the sensitive cardholder data needed to perform a payment transaction while PestPac collects all of the non-sensitive data. Since the software application never touches the sensitive data, PA-DSS requirements no longer apply," says Sean Kramer, CEO of Element.

Jason Kochel, CTO at Marathon Data said his decision to adopt Hosted Payments was a result of Visa's recent compliance mandates that require newly boarded level 3 and level 4 merchants to either be PCI DSS compliant or use http://www.elementps.com/software-providers/pa-dss/ [PA-DSS (PABP), compliant software. "Meeting industry compliance standards is not an option for us; it's a requirement. And, providing our customers with PCI DSS compliant solutions is part of our promise of service," says Kochel.

By integrating to Element's Express platform through Hosted Payments, we were able to avoid the PA-DSS validation process which can take months and be very expensive. The ease of integration which required minimal development work paired with the added security benefits for us and our merchant made the decision an easy one," said Kochel.

Element developed Hosted Payments for software application vendors that sell, distribute or license applications that facilitate electronic payments to offer an alternative to PA-DSS (PABP) validation. Hosted Payments alleviates their cost burden, reduces their risk, and enables them to give their customers a completely secure, reliable payment application. Alternatively, for software providers who have had their applications PA-DSS (PABP) validated, Element also offers fully integrated solutions which eliminates third party software that can lead to security risk, added costs and multiple points of failure in the payments chain. Quite often the outcome will come down to what the company budget permits; an on-premise solution can incur costs from the outset including, the software itself, installation and updates to existing hardware and workstations.
For small businesses with more restrictive budgets hosted CRM systems provide the same functionality without the initial outlay on the software, hardware and setup costs.
A hosted solution can reduce the investment required in resources too, removing the requirement for in-house IT specialists, allowing companies to focus on their core business.
