) March 5, 2009 -- The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) issued a statement today in response to the recent assault on McGruff the Crime Dog as he was handing out fliers to children, by a bus driver in Washington, D.C. The bus driver, Shawn Brim, was quickly apprehended by D.C. police officers. Brim later said that he was trying to be funny. "It is sad and unfortunate that Mr. Brim believes violence is either acceptable or funny. NCPC applauds the swift actions of the officers to apprehend the suspect.
