Angel Quiles Named KUA Meter Reader of the Year

) December 31, 2008 -- The third time was the charm for Kissimmee Utility Authority meter reader Angel Quiles. After coming in second the past two years, Quiles today was named the utility's 2008 meter reader of the year.

Quiles, 29, was chosen from among the utility's 23 full- and part-time meter readers for his meter reading volume and accuracy, attendance, dependability and attitude. As a full-time employee, Quiles read 102,772 electric, water and irrigation meters in 2008 with an accuracy rate of 99.9 percent.

Quiles began his career at KUA in 2005 and is a graduate of Cypress Creek High School in Orlando.

Part-time meter reader Caleb Day, 22, was recognized as the 2008 runner-up for reading 84,469 meters with an accuracy rate of 99.9 percent.

KUA's meter readers ended 2008 with 1.8 million total meter reads with an accuracy rate of 99.9 percent.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
