) November 9, 2008 -- Software Developer Noonmark Technology (www.fileupdown.com) has announced the release of its new File Upload, Download, Distribution, and Storage System that helps businesses securely move and store files from customers, partners, and employees using Microsoft Windows 2003 or 2008.
According to Noonmark's Thursday announcement, this new system moves files across the Internet using industry standard SSL encryption. Users of the system do not need to install any special software - they just need a web browser such as Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox.
"With this new system, organizations running Windows servers finally have an easy and inexpensive way to offer secure file transfer to customers, partners, and employees without the complexity and headaches of FTP," president Fred Jonas said in a statement.
Jonas notes that using a hosted version of this type of system is not an option for some businesses. "The challenge that many organizations have is how to protect and limit access to file data from multiple locations while still allowing end users to be productive," Jonas said. "Because of HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other Personal Information Protection regulations, businesses do not always want to outsource this type of application. They would prefer to run the system on their own dedicated or managed servers."
According to Noonmark, the new system runs on Windows 2003 and 2008 using IIS 6 or 7 and SQL Server 2005 or 2008. All files are transmitted to and from the server using 128 bit SSL encryption. All files that are stored in the system can be automatically safeguarded from prying eyes using 128 or 256 bit AES encryption.
The system administrator can set up selective access to files by user or user group. He/she can also configure automated emails that notify users when new files are available for them to access.
Noonmark said that administrators can run PDF or CSV audit reports that show the files that have been uploaded into the system and who has accessed them. The administrators can also set data retention policies that automatically delete files when their expiration dates have passed.
The system can be used to replace SharePoint installations. It has the ability to use Active Directory to authenticate users when used in an Intranet scenario.
