New Online Home Health Service Launched in California to Expand Direct Patient Care Time While Lowering Costs

) June 16, 2009 -- Today, HealthCare California announces it is the first home health agency in California to implement an industry leading, online service that answers the call from national leaders to utilize technology to improve health care. The home health software service, Agency Manager™, provides HealthCare California with a suite of online services that equips all nursing and administrative staff with real-time access to information at the point of care, reduces costs, improves efficiency and enhances communication across the continuum of care.

In announcing the new service, Devin S. Nugent, HealthCare California's Chief Operating Officer stated, "With the launch of this initiative, HealthCare California has begun to see dramatic improvements in productivity through the use of point-of-care documentation, as well as a reduction in paperwork, fuel expenses and driving times. Most importantly, our nurses are now able to spend more time on direct patient care and education because they can securely complete their charting online and in less time. For patients, this added care time translates into faster recovery time and return to their normal activities."

According to the National Association of Home Care (NAHC), in 2007, over 7.6 million patients utilized home care for an average of 90 days while either recovering from surgeries including cardiac bypass, hip replacement or knee replacement, or for managing complex conditions including congestive heart failure or diabetes. NAHC also reported that, during that same time period, the cost per day for home care was over 80% less expensive than the cost per day of inpatient hospital care.

"The adoption of appropriate technology is a key strategy being advocated by all sides in the current health care reform debate," remarked Joseph H. Hafkenschiel, President of the California Association for Health Services at Home (CAHSAH). "Home health agencies across the state are well positioned to leverage technology to lower costs while improving patient care."

"Now we just log in to Agency Manager™ and can easily complete all of our documentation online," remarked June Webb, R.N., Director of Patient Care Services, HealthCare California. "Physicians can also log in to complete care plan oversight and digitally sign our charts. It really saves time and improves employee satisfaction."

Agency Manager™ is provided by Kinnser Software, and its Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Hester concluded, "This is a critical time for the home care industry in which we must demonstrate that every dollar spent on home care provides unsurpassed value and quality. Working with HealthCare California, as part of their technology leadership initiative, is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the value and quality of home health to both patients and government leaders."
