Mexico Top Priority For Nintendo As Wii Sees Strong Sales Says New Report

Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has now added a new report showing that the Nintendo Wii is selling strong during the Christmas season in Mexico this year, The company forecasts sales reaching 200,000 consoles by the end of the year, a 160-percent increase over 2006.
Mexican Video Game Industry, (http://www.reportbuyer.com/go/ANI00001.html) reports that Wii sold 77,000 units during last year's holiday shopping season. By the end of 2007, Mexicans will have bought another 200,000 units, with a retail value of more than US$50 million. According to the authors of the reports those numbers count only consoles distributed through authorised channels, they note that parallel imports and illegal imports by private individuals for resale are common practices.
The authors say supplies are still stretched thin in Mexico, as they are elsewhere, and the consoles are flying off the shelves as soon as retailers are able to restock them. However, Nintendo has allocated a substantial number for the country, which has become one of its top priorities in Latin America.
The report shows that this year, Wii will sell as many units as PlayStation2 and PlayStation3 combined in Mexico. Still, in 2007 and 2008, it will not manage to outstrip the Xbox360, which remains the country's undisputed market leader.
Mexican Video Game Industry includes consumer and demographic background, first- and third-party analysis, industry trends, forecasts, and detailed data on hardware and software unit sales, revenue, and market share.
